Meet Carrie: A Life Filled with Creativity

Some people collect memories.

Carrie creates them.

Whether she's sketching portraits of her favorite celebrities, shaping clay into colorful works of art, or traveling on Rock 'n' Roll Cruises, creativity has always been at the heart of who she is.
Carrie has been part of the CLASS Day Program for many years, where she spends time creating art, connecting with friends, and expressing herself in new ways. Ask her about her favorite activity, and she doesn't hesitate.

"Arts and crafts."

While she enjoys many different creative projects, working with clay is one of her favorites. She especially loves making pottery and enjoys visits to local studios like Color Me Mine, where she can turn her imagination into something she can hold in her hands.

Today, many of Carrie's colorful clay creations decorate her home—from flower pots to whimsical faces and imaginative sculptures that reflect her playful personality.
To help participants like Carrie explore their creativity year-round, a pottery wheel is one of the items on CLA's Amazon Wish List. Having one at CLASS would give artists more opportunities to learn new techniques, build confidence, and create their own pottery without waiting for a community outing.

Drawing is another lifelong passion.

Carrie enjoys looking through magazines and creating her own hand-drawn versions of celebrities, musicians, and other people who inspire her. Many of her drawings begin with a photograph in a magazine, which she carefully studies before creating her own interpretation. Her artwork fills the walls of her bedroom, creating a space that's as colorful and creative as she is.

Her love of art is something she shares with her mom, who is also an artist.

Music has always been part of Carrie's story.

Her basement has become a tribute to the artists she loves, with walls filled with framed photographs, autographs, vintage records, and memorabilia collected over the years. She especially enjoys Alabama and John Denver and treasures the memories she's made attending concerts, meeting performers, and collecting keepsakes from those experiences.

Carrie also loves to travel. She has taken numerous Rock 'n' Roll Cruises, where she's enjoyed live music, met musicians and celebrities, and even won several Halloween costume and Sock Hop competitions. Back at CLASS, she enjoys singing karaoke whenever the opportunity comes around.
Outside of CLASS, Carrie enjoys shopping trips with her mom, eating Chick-fil-A or Red Lobster (especially the coconut shrimp and famous biscuits!), and spending time creating something new.

When asked how her friends would describe her, Carrie smiled and agreed with words like kind and funny.

We'd add one more:

Creative.

Whether she's shaping clay, drawing portraits of her favorite celebrities, singing karaoke with friends, or making memories on another adventure, Carrie brings imagination, joy, and enthusiasm to everything she does.

Her creativity reminds us that art isn't just something we make—it's one of the many ways we connect, express ourselves, and share who we are.
We can't wait to see what she creates next.
